Specialist in high throughput genetic data based molecular phylogenetics, molecular evolution, and molecular ecology with strong interest in applying my research to improving environmental and human health. Seven-year international PhD and postdoctoral training (Canada and UK), working on the resolution of the eukaryotic tree and origin of chloroplasts and mitochondria, and developping methodologies for both, data generation and analysis. Three-year appointment as bioinformatics research specialist (CIC bioGUNE, Spain), complementing skills with training in population genetics, complex disease association studies and gene expression profiling and applying large data analysis skills to studies based on high-throughput sequencing at the very early stages of this technology. Since 2011, senior researcher in AZTI as lead of Marine Genomics and Biotechnology group, participating in a number internationally funded projects leading the development of genomics based tools for environmental management Invited to speak at international meetings, workshops with stakeholders and international conferences, and author of publications in international high impact journals. Chair of the ICES Working Group for the Application of Genetics to Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Chair of the ICES Working Group on Morphological and Molecular Taxonomy. Editor of Molecular Ecology and Molecular Ecology Resources and reviewer of manuscripts submitted to SCI journals and grant applications on a regular basis. Supervisor of Master and PhD students; h index of 30 and 3942 citations
