Carla Machado is a researcher at VICARTE ("Glass and Ceramics for the Arts") at NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-NOVA). She earned her PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, with a specialization in Conservation Science, with the project entitled "From the texts to the laboratory - a study for the preservation of historical grisailles". Her current research has been focused on the characterization, technical art history, and degradation of glass and glass-based materials (glass paints, glazes). Her scientific activity includes 8 papers in indexed journals, 5 conference proceedings, and 3 extended abstracts, and participation in more than 20 conferences. She has been a team member of 2 accesses to the Alba Synchrotron facility (Refs. 2020094563, 2020094561) and 3 FIXLAB actions funded by IPERION HS, 2 to the Instituto de Quimica e Fisica-CSIC (CHAGRI, CHAGRI2) in 2021 and 2022 and 1 to the Centro National de Investigación Sobre la Evolución Humana-ICTS (DecoGlass) in 2023. She is currently a member of the FCT-funded projects ChromAz (PTDC/HAR-HIS/1899/2020) and MAGICA (PTDC/ART-PER/1702/2021). She also lectured at NOVA FCT, mentoring Erasmus+ students and contributing to Technical Art History, History of Glass and Ceramics courses, and interdisciplinary project development.
