Lélia Matos is a Paleoceanographer with a background in Biology and an expert in cold-water coral ecology and biogeochemistry. With over 15 years experience in Paleoceanography and Paleoclimate, she has developed extensive knowledge on several paleoceanographic proxies and tools. Since her doctoral degree (2017, Bremen University), Dr. Matos has been involved in 7 (inter-)national projects and 2 research cruises, 5 of which she was PI/co-proponent. Overall, she published 8 articles (3 as first author) in ISI journals, (co-)supervised 5 undergraduate students and received 9 awards/grants. Dr. Matos is an active scientist, with over 40 conference presentations and frequent outreach talks; she's involved in the IMBRSea Master Program, teaches as invited lecturer in the Dynamics in Marine Environments Master Course (Angers University), organized the 2019 National Oceanography Meeting and (for >10 years) co-manages her groups' monthly seminars. Within her research group OC2, at CCMAR, Lélia Matos is the responsible for cold-water coral geochemistry as a tool to reconstruct the history of the Atlantic Intermediate Circulation for the last hundred-thousands of years.
