Arooj Fatima is a young enthusiastic chemical engineer. She has a broad range of professional experience in academia, science, and industry. Currently, she is looking forward to a fully-funded doctoral position that will allow her to apply the research skills and experiences to real-world problems while also allowing her to advance professionally in her career. In July 2019, she completed her Erasmus Mundus Master in Membrane and Chemical engineering program, awarded by the consortium of six highly prestigious European universities including Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal. She equipped herself with the knowledge of membrane processes, barrier membranes for food packaging, polymer materials, and characterization of porous materials. Her masters' thesis work was published recently in the European Polymer Journal (Q1 journal). Presently, she is working as a research assistant at the Institute of Experimental Biology and Technology (iBET), Oeiras, Portugal. Her job domain is to develop and modify the bacterial cellulose membranes for various applications including gas transport and food packaging.

  1. Polyelectrolyte complex membranes (PEC) by Aqueous Phase Separation (APS). - This project was supervised by Dr. Ir. W.M. de Vos at University of Twente, Netherlands. Non-Solvent Induced Phase Separation (NIPS) is mostly used for the fabrication of polymeric membranes.   2. Sequestration of CO2 from the Flue Gases of NH3 Production Plant. Chemical absorption method was used to capture CO2 from flue gases by selecting monoethanolamine (MEA) as a solvent. This project includes chemical equipment designing (Absorber, Heat exchangers, Quencher, Stripper, Cooler, Reboiler), cost analysis, instrumentation and HAZOP study.
