Ângela Santos is a PhD student of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the Department of Conservation & Restoration and Research Unit VICARTE - Glass and Ceramics for the Arts, at NOVA School of Sciences and Technology, Portugal. She finished her bachelor's degree in 2015 and her master's degree in 2017 in Conservation and Restoration, with specialisation in Conservation Science, at the same University (NOVA, Lisbon). In 2018, she was awarded 2nd place in the 2018 Oldfield Award by the Society of Glass Technology for her master's thesis project. Currently, she is working on her PhD project, "Lanterna Magica - Technology and Preservation of Painted Glass Slides for Projection with Magic Lanterns", using material characterisation to understand better the materials applied to magic lantern glass slides and contribute to their preservation and appreciation within the framework of project MAGICA. The work developed in her PhD was also awarded a special commendation prize by The Magic Lantern Society at The Mervyn Heard Award 2019.
