Ângela Santos has a PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage - Conservation Science (finished in 2024), developed at the Department of Conservation and Restoration and Research Unit VICARTE - Glass and Ceramics for the Arts, at NOVA School of Sciences and Technology (NOVA FCT), Portugal. She finished her Bachelor's degree in 2015 and her Master's degree in 2017 Conservation and Restoration at the same University (NOVA FCT). Her work has focused on the materials’ analytical characterisation, their preservation, and the study of the history and techniques of artistic production, particularly of painted glass materials, including stained glass, glass paints (namely the sanguine paint) and painted magic lantern glass slides (in the framework of MAGICA project). The Society of Glass Technology awarded her the 2018 Oldfield Award (2nd place) for her Master's thesis project, "Sanguine Paint: Production, Characterisation, and Adhesion to the Glass Substrate", and in 2019 the work developed with Márcia Vilarigues, Vanessa Otero and Beatriz Rodrigues during her PhD project "Lanterna Magica - Technology and Preservation of Painted Glass Slides for Projection with Magic Lanterns" received a Mervyn Heard Special Commendation Award by The Magic Lantern Society (UK).
