Her research interests encompass animal behavior, welfare and ethics, with a special emphasis on dogs and dog-human relationships. Recently, she has focused her work in dog behavior, training and welfare. Ana Catarina Vieira de Castro has published 11 articles and 2 registered research protocols in scientific journals, and 2 book chapters. She has over 30 presentations at national and international congresses. She is also deeply involved in the mentoring of students, having supervised 7 MSc dissertations, 7 BSc research projects (plus 2 ongoing) and 3 research assistants. She is Review Editor in Animal Behavior and Welfare for Frontiers in Veterinary Science and reviewer for several journals including PLoS ONE, Applied Animal Behaviour Science, and Animal Cognition. Her PhD thesis was distinguished with national and international awards, and her current line of research on dog training has been having a high impact on the scientific community and also an outstanding coverage on the media worldwide.
