Rita Figueira concluded her Chemistry degree at the Faculty of Science, the University of Lisbon on 07/2002. In 12/2008, she got a MSc degree in Technological Chemistry at the same University. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Minho in 02/2015 on the topic "Study of use of hybrid materials obtained by sol-gel to produce efficient pretreatments to prevent galvanized steel reinforcement corrosion". The Ph.D. project aimed at the development of new organic-inorganic hybrid (OIH) sol-gel materials as corrosion protection coatings on galvanized steel in alkaline environments. The OIH coatings performance was studied by electrochemical techniques (potentiometric, galvanostatic and electrochemical impedance), microscopy (SEM, EDX, AFM) techniques among others. The results showed that OIH materials exhibited enhanced performance as corrosion protection coatings. In parallel, she worked as a research fellowship from 01/2007 until 06/2017 at the Department of Materials from LNEC. In 2018, she started a position as Junior Research at the Centre of Chemistry from the University of Minho. Rita Figueira was PI on one FCT research project award - SolSensors under the Program 02/SAICT/2017 that was funded with a global budget of € 239.979,07. During the last 5 years, she has supervised five last year undergraduate students and three initial research fellows. Currently, she is co-supervising 1 Ph.D. student, 1 Master student and a research fellow. Rita Figueira is currently Lecturer at the Chemistry Department of the University of Minho. She published 5 book chapters, over 30 scientific papers, with more than 730 citations (h-index 14) and she is corresponding author in most of them. In her activities, she interacted with 54 people as co-author of scientific publications. She participated in several international conferences delivering more than 20 oral presentations. She was involved in one COST Action (MP1202: HINT Workshop: Interface in Hybrids for Sustainable Energy Applications) as a participant of a working group. She also participated in two short term scientific missions. One at the University of Trento working in collaboration with the research group of Professor Sandra Dirè and the other at Dublin City University working in collaboration with the research group of Dr. Aoife Morrin. Her research interests involve the synthesis, structural and physical characterization and processing of OIH sol-gel materials for corrosion and sensing applications. She has also interests in developing chemical-based bottom-up approaches for low cost and sustainable synthesis of multifunctional OIH materials and electroreduction of CO2 in gas-phase and currently, she is R&D Coordinator at VG CoLAB - Energy Storage.

Realizaram-se duas atividades (a 1ª decorreu a 7/05/18 na EB2-3 de Tadim e a 2ª a 17/05/18 na Universidade do Minho em que os mesmos alunos visitaram o DQ).
