I completed a PhD at the University of Bristol in 2010, where I received a Faculty of Science commendation. From 2013 I was an Auxiliar Researcher at InBIO, where I started with a FCT post-doc grant in 2010. In January 2018 I founded the Bat Ecology (BatEco) group at InBIO, divided into three main thematic lines: i) ecology of bats and their response to environmental change (including climate and land-use change), ii) evaluation and identification of drivers of bat ecosystem services and, iii) promotion and management of bat nature-based solutions with stakeholders. BatEco is currently composed by four recently hired Post-docs, 6 PhD students and one MSc. I have (co)authored 73 papers in international peer-review journals with an accumulated impact factor of 316. I also achieved a h=34 and with over 3100 citations (https://scholar.google.pt/citations?user=DumFQfQAAAAJ&hl=pt-PT). Of these papers, 15 were published in top peer-review journals of Ecology, like Global Change Biology, Molecular Ecology, Current Biology, Nature Communications and Science Advances. I also authored a book chapter regarding the effects of climate change on bats and participated as (co)author in 50 communications in scientific congresses, 11 of which as an invited speaker. Over my career, I have received a number of awards like the prize for best poster at the XIIth International Bat Research Symposium, Malaysia (2001) or the Bat Conservation International award for research excellence (2007). Additionally, I was also awarded with a Silver BP Conservation Award (2001) with the project ¿Conservation status of the bumble-bee bat in Myanmar- and participated in a National Geographic Explorer grant (7629-2004). I am also Associate Editor of Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, Academic Editor of PLoS ONE and member of the editorial board of the recently launched Journal for Bat Research and Conservation and was guest co-editor of Hystrix ¿ Italian Journal of Mammalogy (2016). I have concluded the supervision of 12 MSc (5 in the last 5 years) and four PhD. I have also given 22 seminars at both graduate and postgraduate level at universities in Portugal, Spain, Turkey and U.K. I have also organized 10 workshops in bat acoustic identification (Portugal), species distribution modelling (U.K.), bat conservation (Myanmar), geographical information systems (Zambia) and landscape genetics (Portugal). Additionally, I have also given over 20 environmental education actions, from children schools to a more general public. Also of note, I am the Principal Investigator (PI) of a FCT funded project (PTDC/BIA-ECO/31731/2017) and a member of three other ongoing FCT projects. The total budget of these proposals of which I have been PI for the last 5 years amounts to ca. 680k ¿. I am also partner in two international projects: a NERC research fellowship (based at the University of Exeter, U.K.) and a GBIF/BID project (based at Livingstone Museum, Zambia. In parallel, I am vice-Chair and Grant Holder of an awarded COST Action on ¿Climate change and bats¿ (CA18107). The internationalization is a strategic step to continue to participate in large collaborative research groups, foster international funding and participate on the major political theaters of biodiversity conservation. I am founding member and of the advisory board of ¿Bats without Borders¿, a NGO working across southern Africa to conserve bat populations, and have participated on the organization of three European Bat Research Symposia (at Croatia, Spain and Finland). Lastly, in 2017 I was co-founder and convenor of the Intersessional Working Group ¿Bats and Climate Change¿ of the UNEP/Eurobats (Agreement on the Conservation of European Bats), whose main goal is to identify species and areas at risk from climate change and propose amendments to this agreement.
