Marta Sofia Almeida Mendes has a PhD in Biotechnology and is a researcher at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Her academic career reflects a deep passion for Biotechnology, with a particular focus on environmental applications and sustainability. During her PhD, Marta developed innovative biological solutions for color removal from textile effluents, addressing critical environmental challenges in collaboration with the textile industry. This work emphasized the use of biotechnological and microbial tools to promote conservation and biosustainability, contributing to advances in environmentally friendly industrial practices. With several publications and active participation in national and international conferences, Marta has established herself in the area of textile effluent bio-treatment. More recently, she has turned her attention to an exciting new area: combining her scientific expertise with the preservation of cultural heritage. Her current interests lie in developing biotechnological approaches for the preservation and conservation of historic textiles, bringing innovative and sustainable solutions to this area.
