Joana Costa completed the European PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences - Nutrition and Food Science Specialty at Faculdade de Farmácia Universidade do Porto in 2013/12/09, the Master degree in Quality Control - Water and Food Speciality at Faculdade de Farmácia Universidade do Porto in 2009/04/19 and the graduation in Biochemistry at Faculdade de Ciências Universidade do Porto in 2004/02/10. Currently, she is a Assistant Researcher at REQUIMTE-LAQV/FFUP with main research activities related to Food Allergy, namely developing DNA- and protein-based methods for the detection of allergenic ingredients in complex foods and studying the structural properties of food allergens. Besides her focus on FOOD ALLERGY, she also performs research in food authentication, identification of plant/animal species, plant food supplements, and herbal medicinal plant authentication, and GMO detection/quantification by DNA-based techniques. She has 91 articles in peer-review international journals, all of them of high impact factor (H-index of 30, 2180 citations), 8 papers in national journals, and 7 articles in proceeding conferences. She has published 9 book chapters and 1 edited book, she is a reviewer in more than 30 peer-review international journals (most of them of Q1 of FOOD SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY and ALLERGY), she has more than 75 oral (19 as invited speaker)/93 poster communications in inter-/national scientific meetings and she participated in the organising and/or scientific committees of 11 inter-/national scientific events (conferences, seminars). She is also part of the Editorial Board of Allergies (MDPI) and Reviewer Editor in Frontiers in Nutrition and Frontiers in Plant Science. She has received 11 awards and/or honors and in her professional activities, she interacted with 170 collaborator(s) coauthorship of scientific papers. She was nominated as Management Committee (MC) member of COST Action CA18227 (The core outcomes measures of food allergy), with tasks of MANAGEMENT (core management group) and COORDINATION (ITC CG (inclusiveness target countries conference grants) coordinator. She was also nominated as MC substitute in 2 other COST actions FA1402 (Improving Allergy Risk Assessment Strategy for New Food Proteins)(2014-2018) and CA18127 (International Nucleome Consortium) ongoing. She has also participated as a researcher member in several inter-/national projects (n=29) and she is the Co-PI of AlleRiskAssess (PTDC/BAA-AGR/31720/2017). JC is also member of INFOGEST WG3-C (Intestinal barrier models to study allergenic sensitization and inflammation). JC co-/supervised 2 Post-Doc researchers (ongoing), 3 PhD (1 concluded + 2 ongoing), 8 MSc (concluded) and 8 undergraduate (5 concluded + 3 ongoing) students and colaborates as lecturer at FFUP in 2 disciplines of Master Integrated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (since 2021). Recently, JC also gained an Assistant Researcher position in the CEEC 4th ed (Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus) (2020) with project ALLERGENSHAPING ((https://doi.org/10.54499/2021.03583.CEECIND/CP1662/CT0012).
