I am a versatile researcher with a strong academic foundation, holding a PharmD and a Master’s in Pharmacy from COMSATS University, Pakistan. During my studies, I gained hands-on experience through internships in hospital and pharmaceutical industry settings, which sharpened my skills in diverse research methodologies. My academic journey led me to prestigious institutions, including the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program in the USA, where I developed expertise in bioprinting and microfluidics for in vitro tissue and disease modeling. In 2023, I earned a PhD in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, and Stem Cells from the University of Minho, Portugal, graduating with unanimous approval and the highest distinction of “Very Good.” My doctoral research focused on innovative strategies, such as nanotools, 3D bioprinting, and microfluidics for tendon tissue engineering. Currently, I serve as a Junior Researcher in the COMPASS Group at the University of Aveiro under the ERC Consolidator Grant InterLynk, where I advance biofabrication techniques to develop scaffolds for multi-tissue regeneration and investigate spatiotemporal cellular crosstalk by integrating acoustics with 3D bioprinting. To date, I have published 16 peer-reviewed articles, in high-impact journals such as Advanced Functional Materials and Advanced Materials, with a cumulative citation count of 1,736 and a filed patent application. I have delivered six oral presentations at international conferences and received the Best Oral Presentation Award at Chem2Nature in 2019. During my PhD, I mentored three undergraduate students and one Master’s student, and contributed as a founding member of the PhDynamics soft skills program at i3Bs, University of Minho. I lead a national research project (PTDC/BTM-MAT/3201/2020) funded by FCT in 2024, overseeing its technical, operational, and financial execution. I have also been involved in several internationally funded projects including MagTendon, Achilles, and InterLynk facilitating collaborations with leading experts in the field. Post-PhD, I supervised a Master’s thesis on wireless assembly of cell-laden liquid-core capsules using acoustic waves, and currently co-supervising an FCT-funded PhD student, and mentoring two additional PhD students. With expertise across biofabrication, materials science, and biotechnology, I am committed to developing biomimetic tissues and in vitro models while integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices in regenerative medicine. My vision is to bridge the gap between bench and bedside, establishing innovative, personalized approaches to tissue engineering. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and impactful research, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the future of regenerative medicine.
