Helder Alexandre Relvas Paulo holds a BSc in Environ. Eng. (2009) and an MSc in Environ. Eng. (2011). He got a PhD (FCT Fellowship) in 2018 in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal. He spent 6 months abroad at the University of Brescia (Italy). He currently serves as the Vice Director of the Master's in Environmental Engineering at the University of Aveiro. Since 2012, he has been a researcher at the GEMAC - Group of Emissions, Modelling and Climate Change. He is currently a fully integrated member of CESAM - Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies. Since 2017, Helder Relvas has been the coordinator of one of the four vertical research lines of GEMAC, Integrated Assessment, where he is responsible for elaborating research projects and identifying possible links with other entities (public sector/enterprises). In his PhD, he assessed the environmental and health impact of air quality using integrated assessment tools. His PhD document was written as a thesis by -papers published-, which has enhanced his writing skills. In 2017 he made a secondment on machine learning and neural networks at the University of Brescia (Italy). He is skilled in using GIS and Python programming languages. At the research level, he was involved in several national and international research projects, namely in 7 FCT projects, 1 SIAC/QREN project, and 4 European projects. Currently, he participates in 2 national project (BigAir and ALICE) and 3 international projects (FireEUrisk, EMERGE, Distender). Helder Relvas published 32 articles (21 in the last 5 years) in international journals (plus 1 under review), with 680 citations and h-index 14. He has 4 magazine articles, 1 book, 5 book chapters, 13 reports, 3 ERASMUS+ International Credit Mobility Scholarships (Albania, Montenegro and Tunisia), and 2 individual grants funded (PhD and CEEC- Individual Call - 4th Edition). He has more than 40 contributions in national and international scientific conferences (orals and posters), attended 2 summer schools, 15 scientific events without communication, and is Guest Editor of the special issue Modelling & Impacts Assessments of Air Quality, for Toxics journal. Helder Relvas actively participated in the conception and implementation of +15 (inter)national project proposals (8 funded, 5 (2 Green Deal Call) under evaluation). He submitted 2 FCT project proposals as Principal Investigator in 2020 and 2021 (rejected). He participated as a consultant in several protocols with companies and public entities (at the national and international level). He gave technical-scientific support/orientation to MSc, BSc, and international PhD students (from countries such as Brazil, Italy, Algeria, Cabo Verde, who conducted part of their work on GEMAC); is the supervisor of 3 PhD students, was the co-supervisor of 1 MSc student; was a member of the jury of 1 PhD Thesis and 1 Master Thesis (main arguer). He is a reviewer in 9 international scientific journals. He has been involved in pedagogic activities at the Department of Environment and Planning (since 2012), lecturing in Environmental Engineering BSc and MSc degrees: Air Quality Management, Air Pollution, Transport Phenomena and Noise Pollution. He participates in training and organizing events (workshops, meetings), as well as activities for graduate and elementary schools. In 2021 he was awarded the FCT Scientific Employment Stimulus contract (CEEC), and he also awarded the Researcher Award University of Aveiro - 2021 Edition (honourable mention in the Engineering research area), which is a prize that aims to highlight the research work carried out at the UA and at recognizing, annually, the excellence of the Researcher or Research Team whose work has stood out, at national and/or International level.
