Andreia Neves Carvalho main research focus is on the characterization of the molecular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum stress and associated neuro-axonal damage leading to neurodegeneration. In this context she is interested in the research of new molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of mitochondrial function, at the level of mitochondrial biogenesis and mitochondrial dynamics, namely through post-translational modifications of key proteins involved in these processes, in order to pursue new potential therapeutic targets and strategies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Andreia Neves Carvalho got her PhD in Pharmacy - Biochemistry in 2012 by the University of Lisbon. She then worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology of the VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During this period she was the recipient of a DuPré Grant from Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) and an ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS). She moved back to Portugal and is currently a Junior Researcher at iMed.ULisboa, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon.
