M. C. Gaspar completed her integrated master's degree in 2011 in Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra (Portugal). During that period, she was awarded an Integration in the Research grant (2008) from FCT to evaluate the bioactivity of plant extracts. In 2012, she got a PhD grant within the Pharmaceutical Technology area (Jan 2012 - Dec 2015) from FCT. The work was conducted at the Faculty of Pharmacy and at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, and at INSERM U1070, a multidisciplinary accredited laboratory of the University of Poitiers (France). The main goal of the project was to develop innovative antibiotic-loaded polymeric microparticles for pulmonary administration in Cystic Fibrosis. In February 2017, she got a post-doctoral position at the Chemical Process Engineering and Forest Products Research Centre (CIEPQPF), Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Coimbra. In this project, she used environment-friendly processes to convert agroforestry residues into value-added products for insects control, pharmaceutical or food applications. From June 2019 to October 2022, M. C. Gaspar was a Junior Researcher in the same research center. The project (approved in the Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus call 2017) was related to the development of innovative formulations to control the insect vector of pinewood nematode. During this period, she was also awarded a prize to coordinate a project in the Food area, for the development of food packaging sustainable and edible films. In November 2022, she moved to Center for Innovative Care and Health Technology (ciTechCare) - School of Health Sciences ,Polytechnic of Leiria, as a Junior Researcher (Institutional Employment Stimulus) to develop formulations in the food innovation and technology area, to improve health and nutrition. In July 2023, she got an Auxiliary Researcher position (Institutional Employment Stimulus) in the same institution. As a result of the referred scientific work, M. C. Gaspar has published 1 international patent, many papers, and she has done oral and poster presentations at national and international conferences. Moreover, M. C. Gaspar has already taught classes, mainly in the health/pharmaceutical area and she has supervised master's level students.
