Nuno Silas is a Curator and Artistic Director, multidisciplinary researcher, and artist whose work focuses on Curatorial Practice and the History of Museum Collections. He is a an Integrated Researcher (Investigador Integrado) at IHC - Institute for Contemporary History), a Member of IHC's Research Group History of Science, Technology, and Environment, a PhD Candidate in History and Philosophy of Science, with specialization in Museology, at the University of Évora, a IHC (Institute for Contemporary History) hub. In 2025, he was awarded the Mozal Prize in Arts and Cultures, in the Visual Arts Category, a renowned art prize in Mozambique. He is a Curator and Team Member of the DGARTES-Funded Project: Critical Views on the Archive: Shadows an Memories, including an exhibition to be opened at MUNHAC on the 23rd of April, 2026. He has collaborated with renowned institutions, such as Humboldt Forum, Iwalewahaus Bayreuth, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin, EGEAC, CCFMA and Goethe Maputo. He holds a BA Degree from the School of Arts and Design (Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, Caldas da Rainha) and atended a MA in African Verbal and Visual Arts at the University of Bayreuth (UB). At UB, he collaborated to DFG-Funded Research Projects, such as “Black Atlantic Revisited – African and South American UNESCO - World Heritage Sites and ‘Shadowed Spaces’ of Performative Memory” and “Multiple Artworks – Multiple Indian Ocean”. He was the curator and artistic director of the project Black Skin, White Masks: The Black Body in Presence at Galerias Municipais (EGEAC, Lisbon), and curator of the exhibition project "Olhares Críticos sobre o Arquivo: Sombras e Memórias" (Difficult Memories and Decolonization in Portugal), organized by Nuno Silas is a Curator and Artistic Director, multidisciplinary researcher, and artist whose work focuses on curatorial practice and the history of museum collections in collaboration with Plano Nacional das Artes (PNA), Lisbon and DGArtes. The project, taking place in 2026-27, deals with the work of memory through the Arts in Portugal. In April 2024, he was an Invited Guest of the workshop: Conflict and Collaboration in Digital African Spaces, at the Iwalewahaus (UB), presenting his ongoing research project: Hearing More Than Sounds: Restitution and Circulation of Memory, Sounds and Visual Movements of Resistance from Mozambique. This project investigates elements and narratives of Mozambican post-conflict propaganda, based on sonority and visual movements of resistance and the Mozambican's imagination today. Furthermore, he has collaborated with the Natural Museum Berlin and the Humboldt Forum Berlin with the project “Metamorphosis”, under the motto “a world in which coloniality no longer has a place”. He has received various awards and collaborated in group projects and exhibitions internationally: in 2022 have been pointed by Galerias Municipais of Lisbon as a Co-curator an Exhibition Black Skin, White Masks. The Black Body in Presence; in 2024, the University of Western Cape (UWC) awarded me a Museum Fellowship for redefinition of curatorial practice and museology method as well as art history on contemporary art discourse. In the same year, he was nominated at Mozal Arts and Culture Awards in Mozambique by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Mozambique and the Kulungwana art gallery. His work received an Honorable Mentional by the Committee. From 2023 to 2025, he collaborated with Rampa Art Gallery (Porto-Portugal) and Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano, for his solo research exhibition project Joni: Portrait of Mozambican Miners and Families in South Africa Revisited.
