D. Oliveira graduated in Marine Biology and Biotechnology (IPLeiria, PT, 2006), completed a post-graduation in Quality Management (Lusófona Univ., PT, 2009), earned an MSc in Marine Sciences (Lisbon Univ., PT, 2012), and a PhD in Marine Sedimentology and Paleoclimate (Bordeaux Univ., FR, 2017). In 2006, she began her career in Quality Control/New Product Development, building laboratory, communication and management skills over 4-years. In 2010, Oliveira initiated her scientific career as a fellow at LNEG-national laboratory while doing her MSc. In 2013, she was awarded an FCT PhD grant (ranked 4th/61) to develop her research in Bordeaux Univ. (FR) and IDL-Lisbon Univ. (PT). Despite a 6-month maternity leave in 2013, she completed the PhD within the specified timeframe in 2017. Following her PhD, she held a post-doc at Bordeaux Univ. and later at IPMA-Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera. In 2019, she won a Junior Researcher contract in a highly competitive international call (FCT CEECIND) to develop her project IMoVe at CCMAR-Centro de Ciências do Mar, PT. To complement this contract, in 2021 she was awarded the INDRA Exploratory project (€50k) in another FCT international call. Author/co-author of 22 ISI publications since 2015 (15 in Q1 journals), her groundbreaking contributions to palaeoclimatology research earned prestigious recognition. In 2017, she was awarded the esteemed L’Oréal-UNESCO Medal of Honor for Women in Science, a €15k prize for leading innovative research with societal impact. National recognition included the Medal from Municipality of Leiria (2018), inclusion in Women in Science by “Ciência Viva” (2019), and Alumni Career Award from IPLeiria (2023). In 2024, she received her most prestigious honor, the Lewis Penny Medal by QRA-Quaternary Association, recognizing her outstanding contributions to Quaternary research. Moreover, she was awarded 15 travel grants to attend key meetings (e.g. AGU in US, INQUA in JP). Her involvement in 18 (inter)national projects and several international working groups, such as pollen WGs from IODP Exp. 339 (Mediterranean), 353 (Bay of Bengal), 397 (Iberian Margin), and PAGES’s WG, fostered collaborations with renowned scientists and institutions in Europe, Asia and US. Conscientious of the importance of dissemination and outreach, Oliveira has been very active in this domain, participating in numerous (inter)national meetings (>50) with 116 presentations (51 as author, 65 as coauthor) and organizing committees. Her involvement extends to teaching, supervising students and participation in various outreach initiatives (e.g. Algarve Univ.-Lectures, IPMA-Schools). Beyond these activities, she is part of CCMAR’s and IPMA's scientific committees and, within her collaboration with IPMA’s DivGM, she manages the library and Micropaleontology-Optical Lab. Oliveira's research has enhanced our understanding of Earth's responses to natural and human-induced changes by investigating past climate changes in vulnerable regions like the Mediterranean and India. She has primarily focused on Quaternary interglacials as natural case studies of how Earth’s climate system and ecosystems respond under warm conditions similar to future scenarios.
