I earned my BSc degree in Applied Chemistry in 2007 and my MSc degree in Bioorganic Chemistry in 2009 from NOVA School of Science and Technology and I completed my PhD in Chemistry at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in 2014. My doctoral project centered around photoresponsive organic compounds, specifically focusing on achieving photochemical control of rheology. Over the next three years, I conducted postdoctoral research in two national institutions, CENIMAT and REQUIMTE - NOVA, and one international institution, the Centre for Materials Physics at Durham University, UK. During this period, my work covered diverse areas such as smart cellulose materials, water-soluble organic emitters, and chromogenic dyes. Following this phase, I designed a research project focused on the design and application of Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF) emitters in imaging and sensing within biological media. I worked in this research line from 2017 to 2023 as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). During this period I was successful in Grant applications and acted as the PI of a FCT-funded project (budget: €207k), a Terry Fox Research Grant (budget: €15k) and co-PI of an internal IBB Research Grant (budget: €11k). In 2023, I designed a project to develop photonic materials exhibiting circularly polarized luminescence for anti-counterfeiting and security applications, allowing me to secure funding as an Assistant Researcher (CEEC IND5e) at LAQV-REQUIMTE, FCT-UNL, and later that year with a with a Exploratory FCT Project (PEX, budget €50k). My scientific skill set encompass the design and synthesis of organic dyes, photophysical characterization optical materials using advanced techniques, and material characterization. My research interests focus on the development of photonic materials for imaging, sensing and tagging applications. I am also Invited Assistant Professor at Escola Superior de Tecnologias da Saúde de Lisboa (IPL), teaching Organic Chemistry in several Undergraduate Programmes in Health sciences. In my teaching activities, I am immersed in crafting innovative game-based learning methods to enhance student engagement. This involves designing an online text-based game and a board game, both of which are currently in use. I have co-authored over 30 original research articles, 1 pedagogical paper and 1 book chapter.
