Nuno Ferreira was born in Coimbra, Portugal. He obtained his degree (1996) and doctorate (2006) in Electrical Engineering and the Maturity Habilitation Title (Aggregation) level in 2020, from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal. Nuno Ferreira was an Assistant, Adjunct Professor, and Coordinating Professor at the Engineering Institute of the Polytechnic of Coimbra (ISEC) from 1997 to 2024, when he assumed the position of Full Professor. From 2001 to 2005 he held the position of Vice-President of ISEC and from 2009 to 2010 he was Pro-President of the Polytechnic of Coimbra (IPC), from 2010 to 2013 he was President of ISEC and from 2013 to 2017 he was Vice-President of the Polytechnic of Coimbra, being responsible for the Internationalization. Its research and development is focused on Robotic Systems. He has around 120 scientific publications (36 in scientific journals; 1300 citations, h-index 17), participated in 33 international and national R&D projects, coordinated 15, and supervised 2 doctoral works. Since 2006, he has been an integrated member of GECAD (Research Group in Engineering and Intelligent Computing for Innovation and Advanced Development, UIDP/00760/2020), an R&D unit classified as Excellent by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation. He is a member of LASI (Associated Laboratory for Intelligent Systems LA/P/0104/2020), the Portuguese Laboratory Associated with AI. Nuno Ferreira is the main researcher and coordinator of the PPS17: AGV supervision system, from the project GreenAuto project, Notice No. 02/C05-i01/2022, budget of 613 thousand euros 2023-2025, the latest projects coordinated by Nuno Ferreira as main researcher, referring to the project “CORE: Centro de Operações para Repensar a Engenharia”, (Centre of Operations for Rethinking Engineering), from the Interface 2017 Program, reference CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-037082. Main researcher in the Mais Centro Program project, under the reference CENTRO-07-CT62-FEDER-005012, main researcher in the ISEC - ON WHEELS project, candidacy for Projetos Ciência Viva – Escolher Ciência in 2013, but also participated in several projects such as the Forest 4 Future project, led by ADAI, and the University of Coimbra, and within the scope of PP8 – Demonstration of Forest Cleaning Techniques and Tools, reference CENTRO-08-5864-FSE-000031 from 2022 to 2023, participated in the Colors project - CONtextual LOad flexibility Remuneration Strategies under the reference POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028967 2018 to 2021 and in the Grouplanner project - SUPPORTING GROUPS IN TRAVEL PLANNING CONSIDERING SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ASPECTS, under the reference POCI-01-0145-FEDER-29178 of 2018 to 2020. Participated in the SEMFIRE project (Safety, Exploration, and Maintenance of Forests with Ecological Robotics Integration) under the reference CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-032691 in 2020, participated in the SAFEFOREST project (Semi-autonomous Robotic System for Forest Cleaning and Fire Prevention), under reference CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-045931 in 2020. At an international level, he participated in the action project 1 - Erasmus Mundus Joint Programmes, under reference EAC/A03/2018, Action Project - COST, CA16116, WEARABLE ROBOTS FOR AUGMENTATION, ASSISTANCE OR REPLACEMENT OF HUMAN MOTOR FUNCTIONS, 2018, in the action project 1, ERASMUS+KA1 - Learning Mobility of Individuals 2017, GRANT 2017-1-PT01-KA107-035355, in the action project 2 – ERASMUS+ Capacity-building in the Field of Higher Education 2016, in the action project 1 - Erasmus Mundus Joint Programs, EACEA 41/10.
