Maria José Correia Monteiro is a Numerical Weather Prediction Senior Technician of Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, I.P. (IMPA,I.P.), specialised in Data Assimilation (DA). She got a PhD in Geophysical Sciences and Geoinformation by the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon University in 2012; a MSc and the graduation in Geophysical Sciences by the same Faculty in 1997 and 1991, respectively. At present she is also a researcher of the Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering of Technical University of Lisbon. She was a Consultant at the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) during the period (1998-2000). At IPMA, I.P. she was heading the Numerical Weather Prediction for several years, representating the Portuguese Meteorological Service in many international projects or organisations. In particular, she represented Portugal at the Short-range Numerical Weather Prediction Consortium ALADIN, where she coordinated the Strategic Core Programme on DA. At present, she represents Portugal on the wider ACCORD consortium, where she has taken the co-leadership of one of the DA Working Packages. She has 2 peer reviewed papers on DA; co-supervised several students (PhD, MSc); and participated in several research projects.
