Cristiano Pedroso-Roussado is a multidisciplinary researcher with expertise in life sciences and design. He performs in three professional domains: science, creativity, and management. Cristiano holds a postdoctoral researcher position at Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI, from Instituto Superior Técnico, U - Lisbon). The completion of an MSc dissertation has marked his academic journey focused on the neonatal pathogen Streptococcus agalactiae (iMM, Universidade de Lisboa, PT) and a PhD thesis that delved into the infant mice gut microbiota in the context of foetal alcohol syndrome disorder, employing nanopore sequencing techniques (University of Brighton, UK). Cristiano’s experience extends beyond academia into the intersection of scientific research and industry. He has contributed to research related to fermentation at a Portuguese food company, focusing on harnessing Komatagateibacter spp. for producing valuable compounds, evaluating food quality and safety, and spearheading new product development. In addition to his research endeavours, Cristiano has taken on significant project management and innovation roles during this period. Since 2020, Cristiano has been dedicated to researching and developing nature-based solutions to address global challenges, particularly in mitigating the environmental impacts associated with manufacturing processes. His current work is interdisciplinary and focuses on inclusive design for greater well-being for humans and non-humans. He collaborates with the European lighthouse project Bauhaus of the Seas Sails, bridging biology, art, architecture and local communities, in the search for answers to environmental problems in the Ocean. And with the TIDAL ArtS project, which aims to inspire and transform aquatic landscapes through art and science, uniting nature with culture. Furthermore, Cristiano collaborates with the Organismo program of Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21) (Madrid), questioning concepts such as the rights of non-humans, convivial conservation, and ecological technologies.
