I am a metal conservator and researcher at LIBPhys, Nova University of Lisbon. My research focuses on developing analytical strategies for studying and preserving metallic heritage, with a particular emphasis on Science, Technology, and Industrial (ST&I) objects. This involves integrating both their tangible and intangible components. The interdisciplinary approach incorporates contributions from art, history, materials science, and conservation, working together to enhance the cultural heritage valorisation. Additionally, my research involves investigating new conservation methodologies with the goal of exploring environmentally friendly and sustainable options. My interdisciplinary background in humanities (conservation-restoration) and science (electrochemistry and applied physics) equips me with the skills needed to address this challenge. With experience as a conservator in both public and private sectors, I have examined several collections and applied my skills, acquired during my PhD, to use physicochemical techniques as tools for studying cultural heritage. I hold a PhD in Physical Engineering from the University of Lisbon (approved with distinction and praise, 2017) and an MSc in Applied Electrochemistry from the same university (2007). I previously graduated in conservation from Nova University of Lisbon (2001) and received a research grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study conservation at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) in Belgium (1998). Having worked with national and international institutions, I have established a wide network of scientific collaborations. I served as a researcher in the R&D team of the Haute-École Conservation-Restauration in Switzerland (2012-2013) and as a conservator at the former national laboratory, Instituto José de Figueiredo (2002-2003), and the company Archeofactu (2005-2012) in Portugal. I lectured on metals conservation as an invited assistant professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, Portugal (2018), and as an assistant professor at the Conservation Department at Nova University (2023). I held a contract as a researcher at the IH4Future project "Material culture, scientific culture: industrial heritage for the future," financed by the FCT. I led one project as a principal investigator on the study and conservation of objects from the Observatory of Neuchâtel, Switzerland (approx. 160k CHF) and participated as a researcher in six projects. I have published 22 articles in journals with 100 citations, co-edited four books, and organized 13 scientific events. Additionally, I serve as a peer-reviewer for journals (e.g., Conservar Património, JTEFT, ChemElectroChem, Science Reports). I have disseminated my research work among the general public by participating in open science activities such as European Researchers' Night, European Heritage Days, Citizen Science.
