Pedro M. G. P. Moreira, is the director of the Advanced Monitoring and Structural Integrity unit (UMAI) of INEGI - Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. He received his BSC (2001), and MSc (2004) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Porto. Later, he obtained the PhD in Mechanical Engineering also from the University of Porto in 2008. His research interests are mainly focused on Advanced characterization of materials, Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue, Structural Integrity, Experimental Mechanics, and Non-Destructive Inspection. As director of UMAI, he coordinates an interdisciplinary team of about 30 members researchers. Its research team intends to be the preferred partner for the development of structural monitoring and mechanical characterization solutions through applied research in technologies. He has a "h" index of 26 and a total of 158 documents with 2207 citations in SCOPUS. In 2021 he is listed in ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’, subfield Materials. These publications are the result of its participation in several projects, mainly focused on Advanced Manufacturing and the development and analysis of techniques Structural Integrity. He is also the co-inventor of five patents, most of them dedicated to innovations on mechanical characterization and manufacturing technologies. He also supervised 8 PhD theses and more than 15 MSc theses, both on Advanced Manufacturing, Mechanical characterization and Structural Integrity related topics. His background as university professor started in 2002 teaching Technical Drawing in the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto. Along the years he taught different disciplines, from Strength of Materials, Joining and Experimental Mechanics. He is founder and President of the Portuguese Society for Structural Integrity (SPFIE), and a member of the Europeans Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Executive Committee. He led several scientific events such as: Chairman of the II International Conference of the International Journal of Structural Integrity (2014), Chairman of the 6th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Advanced Materials (2015), and Chairman of the International Conference on Structural Integrity (2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021), making this last conference a biannual event that will again be organized in 2023. In addition, he is the Chairman of the European Conference on Fracture (ECF23) that will be organized in 2022. He is also co-chairman of the events: The International Conference on Renewable Energies and Ocean Technologies (REOTech) 2022 Reotech, and the 22nd International ASTM/ESIS Symposium on Fatigue & Fracture Mechanics (ASTM-ESIS ISFFM) 8-10 Nov 2023. He coordinated or was a researcher in more than ten international projects (H2020 and ESA) and more than twenty national projects (FCT and QREN / P2020). He was a member of different national and international research projects evaluation committees, such as H2020 and P2020 calls, and most recently he is evaluator and rapporteur of M-era.NET project proposals.
