Patrícia Sá holds a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures from the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon (2020) with an average of 17/20, and an MA in Comparative Studies from the same institution. She defended a dissertation entitled "Monstros, humanos, transumanos: ecos literários de Frankenstein" (2023), supervised by Professor Ângela Fernandes (CEComp-FLUL), and achieved an average score of 19/20. Since the start of her academic career, she has focused on the study of speculative fiction, making F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu (1922) the subject of her first conference and edited anthology entitled Nosferatu: 100 Anos de Terror (2023). She has contributed to the study of influences of Frankenstein in contemporary novels, particularly Almudena Grandes's La Madre de Frankenstein (2020), via presentations, articles, and a chapter to be included in the upcoming anthology Unfaithful to Frankenstein, edited by Professor Kyle Bishop (2026). From 2022 to 2025, she was a full member of the University of Lisbon Centre for Comparative Studies (CEComp-FLUL), and co-edited the fourth issue of the zine P'ARTE: recolhas poéticas entitled "Sympathy for the Grave" (2023). She also contributed to the study of Portuguese horror fiction with an entry in Verbi Gratia's Enciclopédia do Terror Português (2023) entitled "Expressões de terror na literatura portuguesa do século XX: Mário de Sá-Carneiro e Florbela Espanca." In 2023, she co-organized the event "The Road Goes Ever On And On: Commemorating J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973)," where she also participated as a speaker in the round table “Writing about Tolkien in Post-Graduation in the School of Arts and Humanities” with a presentation that kickstarted her investigation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s works. In that regard, she has published papers and spoken at conferences concerning the portrayal of light in Tolkien’s legendarium, the use of rhetorical devices in The Silmarillion, and the emotion imprinted in the arboreal landscapes of The Lord of the Rings. Her most representative works of this period are the papers “From the Flame Imperishable to the Silmarils: The Dimming of Lights in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion” published in estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities (2023), “The Ekphrastic Narrative of the Silmarils: The Prevalence of Ekphrasis in The Silmarillion” published in The Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts (2024), and the chapter “The Ecogothic Old Forest in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring (1954)” included in Territórios Inquietantes: medo na literature e nas artes, published by Edições Colibri in 2026. In 2024, she began her PhD in Literatures, Arts and Cultures at the University of Lisbon, and joined its Centre for English Studies (ULICES). From 2024 to 2026, she was Editor-in-Chief for estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities. In 2025, she was awarded an FCT scholarship (2025.05476.BD) to support her doctoral research. Alongside her academic ventures, she is a regular contributor for Fábrica do Terror, writing mostly about Portugal’s folklore, and a fiction author, with short stories published in many anthologies, two of which hold the Grand Adamastor Prize for Portuguese Fantastic Literature and one holds the Ataegina Award.
