I obtained a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of Minho (2007), an MSc in Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict from Birkbeck College, University of London (2009) with Merit, and a PhD in African Studies (2016) with the highest distinction unanimously awarded at the University Institute of Lisbon. The PhD in African Studies resulted from research on ethnicity and citizenship in Angola, funded by a FCT doctoral scholarship, and was carried out at the Center for African Studies, now the Center for International Studies of the University Institute of Lisbon, to which I was affiliated as a junior researcher between 2012 and 2016. After obtaining the degree, I was awarded a FCT post-doctoral scholarship in 2017 to start a project at the Center for African Studies and Development CeSA-ISEG. However, I opted for a five-year research grant in the CROME project (2017-2022), coordinated by Miguel Cardina at the Center for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, funded by the European Research Council. In CROME, I was responsible for the entire line of study on the memories of the liberation struggle in Angola and for various activities of knowledge production and dissemination in various formats. In 2021, I was proposed and accepted as a researcher at CES, where I continue carrying out research activities. In the second semester of the academic year 2022/2023, I taught a total of three courses in the field of Political Science and International Relations. The course Major Themes of International Relations, part of the Bachelor's degree in European Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra, where I chose a continuous assessment teaching methodology; and the courses International Politics, part of the Bachelor's degree in Languages and International Relations, and Contemporary Political Systems, part of the Master's degree in History, International Relations, and Cooperation, both taught at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. Regarding future contractual relations, I inform that I have been selected by the FLAD-Brown University partnership to teach at Brown University during the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024, as part of the educational activities of the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. As such, this project on citizenship studies is of the utmost importance to continue my research career and pedagogic work, largely focused on understanding and disseminating the complexities and dynamics of modern societies. Throughout my previous academic achievements and research experiences, I have demonstrated a deep commitment to studying the relationship between ethnicity and citizenship in Angola. This project not only sheds light on the specific context of Angola but also contributes to broader discussions on citizenship in diverse societies, a fundamental aspect of individual and collective identities, shaping social, political, and legal frameworks. Furthermore, my extensive teaching experience in the field of Political Science and International Relations showcases my ability to disseminate knowledge effectively and engage students in critical thinking. By securing funding for this project, I will be able to conduct comprehensive research, analyse empirical data, and produce scholarly publications that will significantly contribute to the existing body of knowledge on citizenship studies. Investing in this project will not only advance academic understanding but also have important practical implications for policymakers, activists, and individuals seeking to promote inclusive and equitable citizenship practices.
