Mikael Alvites Moura is a PhD student in Biosciences with a specialization in Ecology at the University of Coimbra, where he investigates the interactions between climate, tree growth, and resin production in Mediterranean pines. His doctoral research, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), focuses on understanding how environmental factors influence the productivity and anatomical traits of Pinus pinaster and Pinus pinea, with implications for sustainable forest management and resin harvesting industries. He holds a Master’s degree in Ecology from the University of Coimbra, where he graduated with distinction (final grade: 19/20). His master's thesis explored the impact of drought on wood formation and phloem anatomy in Pinus pinaster saplings, contributing to a broader understanding of tree adaptation to climate change. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, during which he developed a strong foundation in ecological research and conservation science. Throughout his academic journey, Mikael has been actively engaged in research projects and scientific dissemination. He has authored and co-authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented his findings at international conferences. His research expertise extends to dendrochronology, wood anatomy, and ecological data analysis, with proficiency in software such as R, ImageJ and SigmaPlot. Outside of his research work, Mikael has experience as an educator and tutor, providing private lessons and academic support in Biology and Natural Sciences at various educational centers in Portugal. His tutoring experience ranges from basic, secondary and profissional school students.
