João Pedro Manaia has worn many hats in his career and as a result, he has built some expertise at handling multi-disciplinary projects and navigating complex challenges. After complete his Degree in Industrial Design, he made an internship which allowed him to improve and acquire other skills, such as benchmarking and ethnographic research methods for marketing and product design. As Industrial Designer, his professional background is on product development. He has 6 years of experience in the design of injection moulds for the plastic industry and in the design/development of an electrical car made in Portugal - FUTI. As researcher, he has concluded both a Master of Science in Product Design Engineering, in which he studied “Processing and characterization of natural fibre composites” and a PhD in Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing, under FCT grant, which involved the study of mechanical behaviours of semi-crystalline polymers under different stress states (triaxiality, hydrostatic pressure and Lode angle), strain rates and temperatures. Currently, he has a researcher at Instituto Pedro Nunes focus on the development of eco-friendly bio-composites. He has been participated in PT and EU projects, as well as he has been attended to conferences as oral speaker, is author or co-author of scientific papers, book chapters and invited as reviewer of scientific journals.
