Sofia is Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at FCSH - NOVA University of Lisbon and INET-md (Ethnomusicology Institute - Center for Studies in Music and Dance), with a project funded by FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) about the Portuguese selection to the Eurovision Song Contest - the Festival RTP da Canção. Lecturer of the Research Seminar Music Festivals in Portugal and Europe (FCSH - NOVA University of Lisbon). She develops research work on Music and Television, Music Festivals, Music and Media, and Music Industries. She holds a Degree in Musicology (Music Sciences) and a Masters Degree in Ethnomusicology by the same institution with the dissertation about music, television, and protest song during the Dictatorship. She is the Team Leader and member of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference EUROVISIONS: Perspectives from the Social Sciences, Humanities, and the Arts (1st. edition: Lisbon, Portugal, February and May 2018; 2nd. Edition: Tel Aviv, Israel, May 2019; 3rd Edition: online-Rotterdam, May 2020; 4th Edition: online-Rotterdam, May 2021; 5th Edition: Turin, Italy, May 2022; 6th Edition: Liverpool, UK, May 2023). Sofia is also a member of the Evaluation Board of Direção Geral das Artes. She was a researcher of the INET-md's projects: EcoMusic - Sustainable practices: a study of the pos-folklorism in Portugal in the 21st century and ORFEU (1956-1983): The Politics and aesthetics of popular music production and consumption in modern Portugal. She was a researcher in the project The recording industry in 20th century Portugal (INET-md) with a FCT scholarship. She developed two Erasmus + Traineeships: 2021-2022 - at the Institute for Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship, Goldsmiths, University of London, United Kingdom under the topic "Fan Tourism, Nation and City Branding in transnational music events"; 2023 - at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona under the topic: "Urban popular music, broadcasted music festivals, and the role of women in the contemporary music practices". Sofia has been part of the Organizing committees of several activities in INET-md. She has presented her work in national and international conferences, and has published her research in scientific publications. She also made fieldwork on Portuguese Wind Bands (2009 and 2011) and published a Portuguese-English book (2012): New Inhabitants Euterpe Musical Society. She is a member of the International Dossier the Observatory of the Protest Song's Editorial Board. She was a member of the Pedagogical Board, coordinator and teacher of Musical Training, Creative Development, and Combo at the Escola das Artes do Alentejo Litoral, Sines (2012-2013). She was a teacher Music History and History of Culture and Arts at the Conservatório das Artes Canto Firme, Tomar (2014-2015), Music History, and Artistic Project at the Conservatório de Música de Ourém e Fatima (2009-2012; 2014-2015), History of Music and History of Culture and Arts at the Conservatório Regional de Setúbal (2020-2021), Music Culture at Escola de Música Nossa Senhora do Cabo (2021-2022). She studied clarinet at the CFA Sociedade Filarmónica Gualdim Pais, Tomar, with António Rosa, and Gonçalo Conceição and work in masterclasses with Nuno Silva, Paulo Gaspar, and Bruno Graça.
