Manuela Branco has a PhD in Applied Biology, a Master degree in Probability and Statistics, and Graduation in Forestry. She has a broad background in insect ecology and forest protection. Her research focuses mainly on the ecology of insect populations and forest pest management. She is mostly interested in ecologically friendly and sustainable strategies, with an emphasis on biological control and management strategies based on the use of semiochemicals. She participated in more than 25 research projects, including national and EU-funded projects, being coordinator at ISA of 12. Research activities include collaborations with enterprises and Associations of the forest sector. She has directed the elaboration of technical and scientific publications, with more than 110 peer-reviewed publications (Scopus h=28). She published 5 books and 28 book chapters. She has received 3 awards. In her professional activities interacted with about 400 national and international collaborators and co-authors of scientific papers. She participated in consultant boards for organization and government policies. She has participated as panel member on the evaluation of Research Projects and Scholarships. She is deputy of an IUFRO working unit. She participated in the organization and scientific committees of national and international congresses. She is Associate Editor or Editorial member of international journals: Forest Ecology and Management, Phytoparasitica, Frontiers in Forests and Global Change.

  1. Early survival and growth plasticity of 33 species planted in 38 arboreta across the European Atlantic area. To anticipate European climate scenarios for the end of the century, we explored the climate gradient within the REINFFORCE (RÉseau INFrastructure de recherche pour le suivi et l’adaptation des FORêts au Changement climatiquE) arboreta network, established in 38 sites between latitudes 37 and 57 , where 33 tree species are represented. We aim to determine which climatic variables best explain thei. 2018. 2. Genetic isolation through time: allochronic differentiation of a phenologically atypical population of the pine processionary moth. Allochronic speciation refers to a mode of sympatric speciation in which the differentiation of populations is primarily due to a phenological shift without habitat or host change. However, it has been so far rarely documented. The present paper reports on a plausible case of allochronic differentiation between sympatric populations of the pine processionary moth (PPM), Thaumetopoea pityocampa. Th. 2007.
