Fani Sousa completed the Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2008 and is Associate professor at the University of Beira Interior. Sousa F was Vice-Coordinator of CICS-UBI - Health Sciences Research Center at the University of Beira Interior between 2017 and 2021, and Coordinator of the Biopharmaceuticals and Biomaterials research group at CICS-UBI from 2018 to 2021. Sousa F was also the Coordinator of the Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences research group between 2010-2014. At a scientific level, her main research activity is related to Health Biotechnology, including the development of new biotechnological platforms for the production, recovery, purification, and stabilization of biological products for therapeutic application (biopharmaceuticals). Sousa F participated in 14 funded research projects and is/was a principal investigator in 4 projects in this field. Among these, it was recently approved a European Research Project (HORIZON-EIC-2021-PATHFINDEROPEN-01-01), where Sousa F is the Principal Investigator at UBI (Participant Institution). The national and international network of Sousa F, with academia and industry, is supported by joint publications, supervision of students, and projects in collaboration. Sousa F has experience in students supervision, with 52 master and 8 PhD theses completed, and she is currently supervising / co-supervising 6 doctoral students and 6 master students. Fani Sousa has published more than 130 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 6 book chapters and 1 patent (+2300 citations; h-index 28).
