PhD in Surface Engineering from the University of Coimbra, with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering. Since 2009, he has been a researcher at LED&MAT, where his work focuses on the evaluation of cutting tools and coatings for metal-cutting processes, particularly in difficult-to-machine alloys. His expertise includes the development and characterization of thin films deposited by industrial PVD magnetron sputtering systems, with hands-on experience in direct current (DC) and mid-frequency (MF) sputtering as well as high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS), targeting applications in tribology, machining and temperature sensing. As a senior researcher, he has been actively involved in the preparation and execution of national and international R&D projects with strong industrial relevance, primarily aimed at the development of advanced surfaces and smart tool solutions for high-value manufacturing applications. His work is carried out in close interaction with industrial partners, contributing to the validation and transfer of sensor-integrated coating technologies beyond laboratory-scale demonstrations. Bruno also has experience in programming and engineering design, including the use of CAD/CAM systems and both subtractive and additive manufacturing technologies.
