Alix Didier Sarrouy is a sociologist and a musician. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology of Art and Culture from Sorbonne Nouvelle University and Minho University (2017), an MA in Culture Policies from Paris Diderot University (2012), and a BA in Culture and Arts Mediation from Sorbonne Nouvelle University (2010). He is currently a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Music & Dance (INET-md), FCSH-NOVA University, Lisbon, Portugal. In 2020 he was awarded a highly competitive individual FCT grant for a 6-year research project on "Migrants and refugees in Europe: arts as tools for sociocultural inclusion" (CEECIND/00658/2018). He is currently the Principal Investigator of the exploratory project "YouSound - Music education as an inclusive tool for underage refugees in Europe" (2022-2023), financed by FCT (EXPL/SOC-SOC/0504/2021). Until December 2020, Alix Sarrouy was an assistant researcher at CICS.NOVA, Nova University, Lisbon, for the ArtCitizenship Project, funded by FCT (PTDC/SOC-SOC/28655/2017). He is an invited teacher in the BA course of Cultural Production and Programming at the ESAD School of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (PT). Alix Sarrouy has published articles in specialized journals and chapters in international books. In 2022 he published two books: one as the author, named "Atores da educação musical: etnografia nos programas socioculturais El Sistema, Neojiba, Orquestra Geração" (Edições Húmus-CICS.NOVA, Coleção Diagnósticos & Perspetivas); and a second one as a co-editor and co-author, named "A arte de construir cidadania: juventude, práticas criativas e ativismo" (Published by Tinta da China). He specializes in the sociological and ethnographical study of artistic ways of expression as tools for education/emancipation, namely with socioeconomically disadvantaged populations in Europe and Latin America. Alix Didier Sarrouy is passionate about the complexity of social interactions in projects involving music and dance as reasons to be, to learn, to create, and to evolve.
