Carlos Paula has a PhD in Chemical Engineering (2023), by the Universidade de Coimbra Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (FCTUC), a MSc in Biochemistry (2014) and BSc in Biochemistry (2012), also from the same institution. After a short period working outside of academia, Carlos joined the Polysyc group, at the Department of Chemical Engineering of UC, in 2017. Under the supervision of Professor Arménio Serra and Professor Jorge Coelho, he started his research activity in the field of Polymer Science. Since then, Carlos Paula has published 7 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals in several areas (Polymer Science, Materials Science, Biomaterials, Chemistry, Biochemistry). Carlos Paula was also the co-supervisor of 1 BSc thesis in Biomedical Engineering, 1 MSc thesis in Forensic Chemistry, 2 MSc thesis in Biomedical Engineering (UC), is currently supervising 1 more. During this period Carlos has been enrolled in teaching activities and has been mentoring/tutoring some students from the MSc in Chemical Engineering. Currently, Carlos Paula is working at IPN (Instituto Pedro Nunes, Portugal) as a researcher. His scientific expertise is mainly focused on polymer science and biomaterials, also with experience in the fields of organic chemistry, materials science and biochemistry. His scientific current scientific interests are the synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials (e.g., films, membranes, particles) for biomedical applications or commodities and 3D bioprinting.
