Francisco José Gomes Patrocínio completed his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering on December 2017 at the University of Lisbon – Instituto Superior Técnico. He specialised in the field of Process Engineering, with his Master’s dissertation focusing on the simulation of biomass conversion processes using Aspen Plus. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Refining, Petrochemical and Chemical Engineering, with his dissertation centred on the Structural Optimisation of Industrial Water Networks. This project has a strong applied component, with a specific case study on the water network of Sines Refinery. Francisco is a member of CERES (University of Coimbra) and CERENA (University of Lisbon) research centers. As part of his PhD contributions, he has published three chapters in internationally recognised books in his field, and has participated in three conferences and two congresses of international standing. He is also a member of the TEC4GREEN initiative, which seeks to valorise waste from the agri-food industry. Overall, Francisco’s interests lie in the mathematical synthesis and optimisation of processes, both single- and multi-criteria, equipment design, minimisation of environmental impacts, and craft beer production.
