Tânia Isabel Bragança Ribeiro is an experienced researcher in the field of Agrarian and Food Biotechnology, specialising in the valorisation of agro-food by-products and the development of sustainable ingredients. Her expertise focuses on the extraction and characterisation of bioactive compounds, particularly antioxidant dietary fibres (ADF), for applications in food sustainability and health. With 32 journal articles (H-index 15), registered 2 patents, and collaborated with over 120 co-authors. Her passion lies in improving the sustainability of food systems and enhancing access to sustainable diets and functional ingredients through innovative biotechnology. Tânia completed her PhD in Biotechnology in 2021 at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, with a thesis titled "Development and Characterisation of Functional Ingredients from Olive Pomace: Bioactivity and Potential Application". Prior to this, she obtained her MSc in Food Technology and Safety in 2011 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, , and a BSc in Biochemistry in 2009 at Universidade do Porto. She also holds certifications in Artificial Intelligence for Life Sciences, research project management, and data analysis in R. Currently, she is a researcher at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, where she will as the principal investigator (PI) of the UPFibre project (January 2024), focusing on the bioactive potential of upcycled ADF using machine learning. Between 2014 and 2019, she worked as a researcher at Associação BLC3 Campus de Tecnologia e Inovação, where she contributed to the Fruit Eco-Drying Line project, developing semi-automated processes for drying fruit residues and transforming them into functional ingredients. She also participated in the EMSURE project, researching energy and mobility solutions for sustainable regions, and conducted biotechnological research on the valorisation of agro-food residues, focusing on circular bioeconomy approaches. She developed innovative processes for the extraction and valorisation of agro-food by-products, which have resulted in two registered patents. She managed the procurement of materials and reagents for the Bioactives and Bioproducts Research Group, optimising resource use and improving laboratory efficiency. With a total of 32 journal articles in internationally recognised journals, including high-impact studies on ADF and sustainable food ingredients. She is also post-Doc researcher in the BioShoes4All project, aimed at developing biodegradable biomaterials for the footwear industry, integrating agro-food lignocellulosic biomass to reduce environmental impacts. Additionally, she collaborated on the HealthyPETFOOD project, formulating pet food with protein hydrolysates from fish by-products to enhance nutritional value and gut health. She has technical expertise in various analytical techniques, including LC-ESI-UHR-QqTOF-MS/MS, HPAEC-PAD, and ATR-FTIR, as well as biotechnological applications such as enzymatic hydrolysis and functional food ingredient development. . Her project management skills include budget management, resource optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. In addition to technical skills, she possesses interpersonal skills such as project leadership, scientific writing, supervision and mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Supervision and mentoring are an important part of her experience, having supervised MSc theses and mentored PhD students focusing on the ADF valorisation and the prebiotic effects of bioactive compounds. She has received several awards, including the Annual Incentive Award from the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry in 2024 and 2023, and the First Prize in the Mentoring Programme Senhor Comendador Arménio Miranda in 2018. She has participated as a guest editor of special issues on food safety and bioactives derived from agro-food by-products, and is a member of the scientific committee of the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.
