Prof. Jin Wang has served as Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of LJMU since 2015 and also as Director of the LOOM Research Institute since 2002. He received his MSc in Marine Engineering and PhD in Maritime Safety from Newcastle University, UK in 1989 and 1994, respectively. After 5 years as a Research Associate at Newcastle University, Prof. Wang joined LJMU as a lecturer in 1995. He was promoted as Reader in Marine Engineering and Professor of Marine Technology in 1999 and 2002, respectively. His research interests are in design and operation of large maritime engineering systems. He has over 540 technical publications including 2 research monographs and 212 SCI (Science Citation Index) cited journal papers have been published. Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Marine Engineering and Technology (a renowned journal in quantile 1, Science Citation Indexed, 2021-date). Highly Commended Paper Award from IMechE Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering in 2010 and 2012. The author with the highest number of publications worldwide on the topics of “Marine Safety” and “Offshore Safety” in the Web of Science. He has consistently managed competitive funding as PI from the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (7 EPSRC grants as PI), EU (4 EU grants as coordinator and 4 EU grants as LJMU’s PI) and many other funding bodies since 1998. He has, as coordinator, led three multiple partners projects funded by EU under FP7 and H2020: RESET - Reliability and Safety Engineering and Technology for large maritime engineering systems (€1,427,500; 2017-2023), ReMESH - Research Network on Emergency Resources Supply Chain (€1,324,800, 2018-2024), and REFERENCE - Risk assessment and decision science research network (€384,000, 2012-2016). He is the Founding Director of the Liverpool Logistics, Offshore and Marine Research Institute in 2002 and managing director since then. It is the largest of its kind in the UK/Europe with more than 30 academic staff and 60 researchers. Has completed supervision of 66 PhD researchers, 25 postdoctoral researchers and 43 international research visitors at LJMU.
