Teresa Sousa is a postdoctoral researcher in cognitive neuroscience and neuroengineering fields, with a background in biomedical engineering (University of Minho, 2010), in which she also got her Ph.D. from the University of Coimbra in 2017, in collaboration with the University of Maastricht. Currently, she is investigating at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health of the University of Coimbra how to harness functional neuroplasticity to achieve therapeutic gains in neurorehabilitation using non-pharmacological neuromodulation approaches. In line with this, she is leading a research project to test volitional neuromodulation based on brain-computer interfaces as an adjuvant therapeutic approach for resistant neuropsychiatric conditions. Additionally, Teresa is interested in combining advanced brain mapping and neuromodulation techniques to characterize the heterogeneity of therapeutic response.
