Andreia S. Ferreira obtained her degree in Biotechnology in 2009 and her Master in Food Biotechnology in 2012, both at University of Aveiro. In 2016 she was awarded with a PhD scholarship and completed the PhD in December 2021 in Sustainable Chemistry from University of Aveiro, in collaboration with NOVA School of Sciences and Technology in Lisbon, University of Porto – Faculty of Pharmacy, and University of Porto – Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar. During her PhD, she developed a comprehensive knowledge about extraction, composition, and characterization of microalgae compounds, focusing on the structural characterization of polysaccharides and sulphated polysaccharides using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry-based approaches. Moreover, the PhD thesis enable her to acquire expertise in the biotechnological applications of microalgae polysaccharides, namely as immunostimulant with potential to be used in aquaculture to enhance humoral immunoactivity of fish. Since 2013 up to now, Andreia S. Ferreira has been working in the GlycoFoodChem Laboratory belonging to the LAQV-REQUIMTE, a research group focused on the research of polysaccharides from different sources, establishing a structure-function relationship for scientific-based applications. In 2022 she worked in the project “cLabel+: Alimentos inovadores “clean label” naturais, nutritivos e orientados para o consumidor” as a research fellow. Currently, she is a researcher working in the project “BioEcoAzul -Pacto da Bioeconomia Azul - Vertical das Algas” funded by the national PRR, involving 85 entities (algae producers, universities, companies). Andreia S. Ferreira is author/co-author of 12 papers in international peer reviewed, and 7 oral communications in national and international scientific meetings. She also participated as a researcher in 5 projects. Currently, she is teaching Laboratories of Biochemistry 2 course to the undergraduate students of Biochemistry (3rd year) at University of Aveiro. She supervised 5 undergraduate students and 3 Master students. She has also been invited to participate as a reviewer by international journals. Andreia S. Ferreira has been dedicated to both food technology and algae valorisation, with particular emphasis on carbohydrates structural characterization, encompassing the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry and chemistry.
