António HS Delgado concluded his dental degree (1:1 honours) at Egas Moniz School of Health and Science (PT) in 2017/07, and was awarded a Merit Award by the Portuguese Ministry of Higher Education for academic excellence, in the same year. In January 2018, Antonio pursued his PhD studies in Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering at The Eastman Dental Institute, University College, London (UK). He concluded and graduated with his PhD in just 3 years, having worked with Prof. Anne Young's research group. He was invited to continue his post-doc studies at EDI, UCL as an Honorary Research Fellow in 2021. His research work focused on the development of novel remineralising, antibacterial and self-adhesive resin composites for bone and dental applications. Antonio's research output during his PhD led to the creation of a new family of self-adhesive composites to achieve minimally invasive dental treatment for special population groups such as children. His PhD outcome was featured in several national and international conferences and published in different Q1 journals as full-text papers. Antonio was awarded the Fusayama IAAD Scientist award in 2019 and 2021 for research pertaining to the self-adhesive composite field, and 4 other prizes due to research achievements. Antonio is an Integrated Member of the Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar Egas Moniz (CiiEM) and Auxilliary Professor of Dental Materials and Operative Dentistry at Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz. He currently lectures Dental Materials Science and Operative Dentistry at Egas Moniz, where he also supervises MSc students in their research theses. Antonio works at the Biomaterials Lab of IUEM. Antonio has had posters, talks and keynotes in several major international conferences important in the field, in Europe, North and South America and Asia throughout his career. His research focuses mainly on biomaterial characterisation and optimisation. He holds expertise in spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR/Raman) of biomaterials, specifically polymers, polymerisation kinetics, chemical modifications and development of new conventional composites, self-adhesive composites and dental adhesives, and study of their physico-chemical properties.
