Ece Canli is a researcher, artist and musician, born and raised in Turkey and based in Portugal. She holds a Ph.D. in Design at the University of Porto (Portugal) and an MFA in Experience Design at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts, and Design (Sweden). Her tools of investigation include texts, voice, sound, and artifacts. Her academic work sits at the intersection of decolonial queer feminist epistemologies, material regimes and body politics; more specifically, socio-spatio-material constitutions of gender, sexuality, race and other identity categories. As a researcher and educator, she lectured internationally, taught design history, theory, criticism and methodologies, and published in various journals and anthologies. She is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed research collective Decolonising Design Group and currently a researcher in CECS (Communication and Society Research Centre) at University of Minho, awarded by the Scientific Employment Stimulus (2nd edition) of FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia), where she investigates spatial, material and technological conditions of queer incarceration. In her vocal and artistic practice, she explores counterfactual narrativities, cosmic myths, extralinguistic expressions, and extended vocal techniques while continuing to produce texts and sounds for performances, exhibitions and videos, both in collaboration with other artists and as a soloist.
