Tiago Machado (TM) is a molecular biologist graduated by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and has a BSc degree in Genetics and Biotechnology (2019) nad his currently pursuing a MSc in Bioinformatics. During his BSc curricular internship in CIBIO - Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources, TM helped explore the mechanisms involved in SUMOylation in Arabidospsis thaliana using gene networks and bioinformatic tools. After graduating, he helped develop and optimize protocols for the in vitro conservation of Humulus lupulus (hop) national varieties during his internship at the Portuguese Bank of Plant Germplasm (BPGV). In the meantime, TM worked within the PDR2020-funded CAEA-AGRI project in order to describe the national Zea mays (maize) and Brassica genus landrace collections using morphological characterization data stored at BPGV. Moreover, he established several agro-ecological groups within these collections, some of which possess high potential for harbouring abiotic stress resistant phenotypes. More recently, TM is developing and curation plant metabolic models for the study of the capacities and constrains of different types of photosynthethic mechanisms under the supervision of Dr. Nadine Töpfer at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics Crop Plant Research (IPK). Over the last years, TM has communicated his findings at various conferences and schools. TM discovered in data exploration and the conservation of genetic resources his passion and professional motivation. In addition, another specific objetive in his carrer is to develop data analysis strategies to potentiate natural resources to solve major global issues in food security and sustainable agriculture systems.
