In 2019, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Advisor in Sustainable Development with the distinction Magna Cum Laude. Subsequently, I pursued a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management, majoring in Environmental Monitoring, and graduated with Cum Laude in 2021. Both my Bachelor’s and Master’s theses were submitted in collaboration with Nature Trust Malta (NTM), focusing on the protection of the coastal habitat Mediterranean Salt Meadows and the water quality in nature reserves of Malta. I also got an advanced Master’s degree in Risks and Natural Disasters Management in 2022, focusing my thesis on volcanology with the title “Improvement of the chronostratigraphy of Mount Fuji (Japan) for the Subashiri-c (1500 to 300 cal BC) and Subashiri-d (300 cal BC to present) periods using OxCal software”. During my studies, I completed internships with the NGO NTM and participated mostly in the protection of coastal habitats and fauna conservation in Malta. Following my graduation, I was offered the opportunity to work as a laboratory technician at the Azorean Biodiversity Group (GBA-cE3c) in the University of the Açores (UAç). I was supported firstly by a post-graduation Erasmus + grant and secondly supported by the Fundação Gaspar Frutuoso Contracts, the latter being my current position as of May 2024. The main objective of this collaboration is to work as a parataxonomist, helping to build a species database used in different arthropod monitoring projects. Based on this effort I co-authored two scientific articles in Biodiversity Data Journal. My position at the UAç allows me to collaborate with other researchers and participate in many projects. I was involved in the implementation, parataxonomy, data analysis and knowledge dissemination of a BioBlitz taking place in Angra do Heroísmo in June 2023. The aim of the event was to interest the citizens in biodiversity by surveying plants, fungi, arthropods and birds while getting census data. This event resulted in two articles, which I co-authored, published in the local magazine “Pingo de lava” for the Associação Os Montanheiros. I am currently involved in the creation of the collection of hymenoptera species for the Azores, as a part of the PhD project of Sébastien Lhoumeau, and the creation of a database and its protocol for a DNA barcoding project of Azorean arthropods. This is an opportunity to deepen my taxonomic knowledge as well as my team work skills and attention to details. Lastly, I am always eager to expand my knowledge about ecology and island biodiversity and participate in connected activities. For instance, I volunteered for patrolling during the SOS Cagarro campaign of 2023 and completed the Island Biogeography and Macroecology summer course in 2023, organized by UAç. I also want to add that my experience abroad in an English or Portuguese speaking environment with international colleagues helped me to develop interpersonal/social skills as I discovered different cultures and collaborated with people from all over the world.

2024/05/22 - 2024/05/22 I participated to a science communication event for the Global Day of Biodiversity in Angra do Heroismo (on the demand of the Câmara Municipal). The aim of the event was to teach the participants more about the biodiversity of the Azores thanks to mini-games. The event was directed towards the general public (that included kids, adults, locals and tourists). I was responsible of the game "Onde fica?", that I animated both in English and Portuguese.

2023/10 - 2023/11 I participated to the volunteer patrolls that were organized for SOS Cagarro 2023. This campaign has two main goals: raising awareness about the Cory's shearwater and contributing to the conservation of this species. The organisation of the campaign and patrolls coincides with the first flight of the juveniles out of the nest, as sometimes they need to be rescued.

During the different classes, a focus was made on volcanic islands such as the Azores, Madeira or the Canaries.
