FMFSantos has 10 years of experience in the academia field and defines himself as a bioorganic chemist, employing a broad chemical toolbox to unravel intricate biological processes. FMFSantos completed his PhD in pharmacy (specialization in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry) with distinction and honors at FFUL in 2018. FMFSantos’ research work was highlighted in a news article by ASPIC and patent rights were granted to Hovione SA. Throughout his PhD, FMFSantos was awraded the young medicinal chemist in Portugal by SPQ in 2017 and invited for one international oral communication at 4th EFMC-YMCS in Vienna. Additionally, FMFSantos has also delivered three national oral communications, including 1 invited. Since 2014, FMFSantos has developed his tutoring and leadership skills with the co-supervision of 13 under- or graduated students from national and abroad universities. Additionally, his team-player and communication skills were further developed as FMFSantos has been involved as a commission staff in several national and international symposiums and was a member of postgraduate students’ commission at FFUL. Following his PhD, from 2018 to 2021, FMFSantos was a research fellow at iMed.ULisboa institute, focusing on well-defined drug delivery platforms for Alzheimer and cancer. In 2022, FMFSantos had the opportunity to transition and experience a new challenge at a pharmaceutical industry (Hovione). Despite the rewarding experience, during which his time-efficiency and problem-solving skills were further developed, FMFSantos’ passion for the academic research prompted him to become a young researcher with a CEEC position and join the teaching service at FFUL. His current research focus centers on discovering novel smart chemical entities with selective responsive activation mechanisms aimed at advancing innovative therapeutic technologies.
