José Moreira received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Networks from École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris (France), currently known as Télécom ParisTech, and Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (Portugal), in 2001. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of Universidade de Aveiro and a researcher at IEETA, a non-profit R&D institute affiliated to the same university. He also served as a guest professor of the Information and Communications Technologies Institute of Carnegie Mellon University and OTH Regensburg (Germany). He has been program director of the B.Sc. in Technology and Information Systems and the M.Sc. in Information Systems of the University of Aveiro. He was highly committed to science and technology communication and organized more than 10 one-week programs for young students (<18 years old) in computer science and related areas since 2014. His main teaching and research topics are on data and knowledge engineering, and he is particularly interested in modeling, representing and analyzing spatiotemporal data in databases. Currently, he is supervising two Ph.D. students, three M.Sc. dissertations and five scholarship holders. He is the principal investigator (PI) of "MoST - Modeling, querying and interactive visualization of spatiotemporal data" a project funded by FCT (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-032636), local-PI of the project "RH 4.0 FeD: Forecast and automatic sizing in retail stores" (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039719) and also participating in more three R&D projects. He is a member of the Program Committee of the IEEE International Conference on eScience since 2014.
