C Alves graduated in Environmental Engineering in 1992 from the University of Aveiro (UA) and completed a MSc in Environmental Technology in 1996 from the University of Minho. Since 2001, she holds a PhD degree in Environmental Applied Sciences from UA. In 2018 she got the Habilitation degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, also from UA. From 1992 to 1995 she was assistant professor at Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, teaching 9 different curricular units. Since completion of her PhD degree, she was for 5 years (2001-2005) assistant professor at Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. At the end of 2005, she was hired as an Assistent Researcher at CESAM (Centre from Environmental and Marine Studies), one of the R&D units of UA, classified as Excellent by FCT. Since January 2014, also at CESAM, she is Principal Researcher, where she leads the Atmospheric Chemistry Group. She was awarded 2 consecutive research contracts by FCT (IF and CEEC) in highly competitive international competitions. She completed the supervision of 9 PhD theses and is currently supervising 8 PhD students. She also supervised 13 post-doc students and more than 20 Master thesis. She published about 215 indexed papers with more than 11500 citations and a h-index of 60. She integrated, for 2 consecutive years (2022-2023) the Global Highly Cited Researchers list and is among the most cited and influential UA scientists in the world. One paper was awarded in EGU2013 as one of the most cited in 2010-2011 of Atmospheric Environment. Also, one of her PhD students was awarded by RICTA2013 (Iberian Aerosol Meeting) for the best thesis in 2011-2012. Additionally, C Alves published 9 books (3 as single author), 7 book chapters and presented about 400 works in peer-reviewed conferences. She was invited as plenary speaker to more than 30 scientific events. In the last years, she has been acting as a reviewer of about 45 SCI journals. Since 2010 she is Associate Editor of Atmospheric Research (Elsevier). From 2016 to March 2021 she was also Associate Editor of Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health (Springer), but in April 2021 she was promoted to Editor-in-Chief. She is also member of the Editorial Board of Atmosphere (MDPI). In 2012/13 she was Editor of one of the volumes of the Encyclopedia "Handbook of Global Environmental Pollution" (Springer). She has been Guest Editor of special issues of various journals (Scientific World Journal, Journal of Carbon Research, Atmosphere, Energies). She has been acting as member of peer review panels in several international (e.g. research projects in Austria, Poland, Chile, Finland, UK and Switzerland) and national programmes (e.g. application for PhD and post-doc scholarships from FCT). She was/is: 1) Principal investigator of 4 FCT projects; 2) Principal investigator at UA of 1 FCT project coordinated by Univ. of Coimbra, 3) Participant in other 8 FCT projects, 4) Principal investigator of 2 European Projects (HORIZON-WIDERA & DRIIHM LabEx – CNRS); 5) Principal investigator at UA of 6 projects coordinated by Spanish institutions; leader of work packages in 4 of these projects, 6) Principal investigator at UA of the AIRUSE project (LIFE program, European Commission); leader of a major work package in this project, 7) Participant in 5 European projects, 8) International consultant of 2 Chilean projects, 9) Principal investigator in 2 Luso-Spanish Actions, 10) Participant in 1 Luso-German Action, 11) Principal investigator of 4 RADIATE projects (EU Horizon2020 programme to finance access to international infrastructures). AIRUSE has received the 'Best of the Best' LIFE-Environment Project Award.
