Mariana Correia is currently a research investigator at the Laboratory of Vegetal Biotechnology of the University of Coimbra. She integrates a project named cLabel+, where her main goal is the in vitro propagation of Salicornia ramossima to apply in meat products for salt reduction. She completed her bachelor's degree in Biotechnology at the Agriculture College of Coimbra (ESAC-IPC) and, after that attained her MSc in Biodiversity and Vegetal Biotechnology at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC). From her professionalizing internship, performed at the Laboratory of Vegetal Physiology in the Faculty of Farmacy at the University of Barcelona, occurred a written report with the theme " The effects of a fungal elicitor on the production of taxol in cell suspension cultures of Taxus baccata". Her master's dissertation with the theme "Morphological and physiological evaluation of tamarillo (Solanum betaceum Cav.) somatic embryogenesis- derived plants", performed at the Laboratory of Vegetal Biotechnology of the University of Coimbra, allowed her to develop laboratory techniques from molecular biology to in vitro culture, such as somatic embryogenesis and axillary shoot proliferation and follow the conversion of the somatic embryos into tamarillo plants and their process of acclimatization from the growth chambers to the greenhouses. The outcomes of this dissertation produced a poster displayed and presented at "XIII Reunión de la Sociedad Española de Cultivo In Vitro de Tejidos Vegetales" in Victória, Spain. She, then, became an intern at the Center of Plant Biotechnology of Beira Interior (CBP-BI) where her main functions were the in vitro micropropagation and establishment of different plant species like chestnut, morello cherry tree, strawberry tree among others, as well as, the plants acclimatization into the greenhouse. Her main interests reside in the Vegetal Biotechnology field.
