Marcos Tenente is an Environmental Engineer who completed his master’s degree in Energy for Sustainability - Energy Systems and Energy Policies at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, in September 2019, graduating with a 17/20. As part of his master’s studies, he conducted a dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Patrícia Pereira da Silva and Prof. Carla Henriques, earning high honors (19/20). His research, titled "Eco-efficiency assessment of the electricity sector: Evidence from 28 European Union countries," applied Data Envelopment Analysis methodologies combined with Input-Output tables to evaluate the eco-efficiency of electricity sectors across the EU. This work resulted in a scientific journal publication in May 2020. Following his master’s, Marcos worked as a researcher at INESC Coimbra on the POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029820 - T4ENERTEC project. His focus was on developing a methodological approach that integrates multi-objective optimization methods with Hybrid Input-Output – Lifecycle Analysis (HIO-LCA) models. This research aimed to support Portuguese public decision-makers in selecting and evaluating energy efficiency measures. Driven by his interest in this field, Marcos enrolled in the Sustainable Energy Systems (SES/EfS) doctoral program at the University of Coimbra under the supervision of Prof. Álvaro Gomes, Prof. Carla Henriques, and Prof. Patrícia Pereira da Silva. His thesis, "Multiple benefits of energy efficiency policies: Exploring new assessment tools," proposes a holistic approach integrating mathematical programming models with Hybrid Input-Output – Lifecycle Analysis (HIO-LCA). The objective is to support policymakers in designing energy efficiency initiatives by considering economic, environmental, energy, and social impacts throughout the lifecycle of these measures. His model utilizes Supply and Use matrices alongside various sustainability indicators to assess the total impacts of changes in technological demand. More recently, Marcos joined the RES4CITY project, a European-funded initiative aimed at equipping students and professionals with the skills necessary for the green transition, supporting the shift toward a low-carbon economy.
