Mélanie Yvonne Louise Toulhoat. Has a PhD in Contemporary History concluded on 2019/09/20, by the Center for Research and Documentation on the Americas (CREDA) of the University Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3 (France), and the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (Brazil). Her thesis "Laughing at dictatorship, laughing under dictatorship. Graphic humor in the independent press: a weapon of resistance under the Brazilian military regime (1964 - 1982)" won the 2020 thesis prize of the Presses de la Sorbonne Nouvelle. Since September 2022 she is a Junior Researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Nova University of Lisbon (IHC — NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST), after having been a post-doctoral fellow at Casa de Velázquez (EHEHI) in 2021-2022 and a post-doctoral fellow at the LabEx HASTEC of the École Pratique des Hautes Études affiliated with the Institute of African Worlds (IMAF) in 2020-2021. Her current research is devoted to popular education and literacy projects for adults developed in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde after the national liberation struggle and the independence of the two countries. She is president of the Association for Research on Brazil in Europe (ARBRE), member of the coordination of the international public history project "História da Ditadura" and member of the editorial board of the journal Lusotopie.
