Alexandra Guerra holds a Master's degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra (2010). Her research has been focused in developing mathematical models of marine organisms and ecosystems, aiming to predict the effects of various stressors such as climate change, deep-sea mining, and pollution, or impairments (e.g. intersexuality) on the composition and function of these ecosystems. AGuerra is also experienced in numerical methods for calculating consumer production in coastal ecosystems. Currently, she is a researcher from the Marine Ecosystem Modelling (MEMO) team from CIIMAR and holds a MSc. grant within the DEEPRISK project, where she is developing mathematical models for Atlantic deep-sea communities to anticipate the effects of potential seabed mining activities. As part of the MEMO team, she also participates in other research studies including Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of coastal and marine ecosystems, development of multidisciplinary numerical frameworks, and bioenergetics of marine organisms, as well as outreach activities for scientific (e.g., ISEM 2023) and non-scientific audiences (e.g., CIIMAR open day 2022, 2023). Since 2022, when she joined CIIMAR, she has participated as team member or collaborator in four R&D projects: MODELRISK, DEEPRISK, OCEAN3R, and OSCAR. Throughout her scientific career she has participated in various national and international congresses, delivering oral presentations (11) and posters (6). She is a lecturer in the Introduction to Ecological Modelling course conducted by the MEMO team at CIIMAR (IEM22 and IEM24), where she also contributes as a co-organizer. The course cover topics such as population dynamics models, predator-prey dynamics, or bioenergetics models. It attracts participants from both national and international backgrounds. AGuerra also assists in supervising undergraduate students, both national and international, within the MEMO team. AGuerra has technical expertise in Multimedia Product Development, with a focus on programming. Among the modelling software she is experienced with ECOPATH with ECOSIM, STELLA, and POWERSIM. She has also some experience with R. Currently, she has published 7 peer-reviewed articles, being the first author of 2 of them.
