Samira Ferreira graduated in Biochemistry in 2008 and obtained her PhD in Health Sciences in 2012 at the University of Coimbra. She is a Junior Researcher at the Center for Innovation and Biomedicine (CIBB), University of Coimbra. She is interested in the role of neuromodulators, particularly adenosine and endocannabinoids on the regulation of synaptic transmission, neural plasticity and behavior. She has a total of 29 peer-reviewed publications, from which 3 are as first author and 5 as last author. She has been the main supervisor of a total of 3 master students, mentored 2 PhD students, 2 master students, and several Bachelor's degree students, as well as MSc students in lab rotations. She has been a jury member in 2 PhD thesis and the main examiner in 2 master thesis. She is yearly invited to teach classes related to her research topics and technical expertise across 6 different master programmes and 1 bachelor's degree at the University of Coimbra. She has co-organized several events, including a one-day symposium on the variability and adaptation in neurons and circuits held in 2016, a two-day international symposium on medical cannabis and role of endocannabinoids in health and disease, held in March 2023, and the 2023 Retreat of the Neuroscience & Disease Research Line at CIBB (to be held on June 2). She is a member of the Portuguese Neuroscience Society (SPN), the Portuguese Pharmacological Society (SPF) and the International and European Neurochemical Society (ISN and ESN).
