Luana Santos is a PhD student at the Instituto Dom Luiz, Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon (IDL-FCUL). She completed her MSc in Geophysical Sciences in 2023, specializing in meteorology and oceanography at FCUL. Since 2019, she has been working at IDL in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to national and international projects such as CEASEFIRE, RNA2100, FireCast, MEDCYCLONES, AIClimate@EU, and LUCAS (EURO-CORDEX). Her early research focused on wildfire assessment in Portugal, using statistical methods to analyze fire distributions and meteorological fire hazard. Later, she expanded her work to study the role of wind direction in large fire events, resulting in research presented in peer-reviewed publications. She has also been involved in numerical modeling studies of extreme weather events such as Hurricanes Ophelia and Leslie, investigating their atmospheric conditions and landfall impacts. Her current research interests focus on climate modeling and land cover change, particularly its role in extreme weather and climate events. She integrates numerical modeling techniques and observational data to assess land-atmosphere interactions and their influence on climate extremes such as heat waves, droughts, and wildfires. Beyond scientific research, she has participated in various science communication events, workshops, and training schools, and is actively engaged in knowledge dissemination and collaboration.

It covered several aspects of Mediterranean cyclones: dynamics, processes, forecasting, predictability and impacts. The activities developed through lectures and practical activities where the students performed specific analysis in small groups. Final results were presented in the form of short talks on the last day of the Training School to trigger discussion and provide the opportunity to enhance the collaborative spirit.
